ABOUT LFMUN 20-21:

In hopes of inspiring students at Longfellow Middle School and immersing young minds in diplomatic debate, the Longfellow MUN team welcomes all to explore the wonders of Model United Nations whilst also enhancing skill in research, public policy, and speech. We invite all from the shy speaker to the aspiring leader to join our club at any time in the year; our members are leaders in the making, delegates at heart. Inspiring, aspiring, and leading. As always.

Here at Longfellow, we believe every student has potential to grow as a speaker, diplomat, delegate, and leader. We aspire for success in one's own development of character, and to foster a safe environment where delegates immerse themselves in public policy, international relations, and the core of modern diplomacy.

Find light where there is lack thereof and resolution where there is chaos. Think outside of norms. Revise towards discomfort. Inspire, aspire, lead.

We must close the gap between the world as it is and the world that should be. That is the mission of the United Nations.

MODEL UN
Model United Nations is what it sounds like: a simulation of the real United Nations. Fostering both maturity and debate, many young minds engage and discuss in conferences. Unlike debate, Model UN aims to tackle complex real-life issues, such as pollution or refugee crises.
  • LEADERSHIP
  • DIPLOMACY
  • CREATIVITY
  • RESEARCH
  • CONFIDENCE

three kinds of debate:

Picture
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
PASSION. ELOQUENCE.
The most common form of debate. Delegates represent delegations from countries to participate in UN committees. In response to the committee topic, delegates would collaborate and debate on resolutions to solve the problem at hand.
Picture
SPECIALIZED
CREATIVITY. COOPERATION.
A mix of both GA and crisis. Delegates represent real-life figures, such as politicians or characters. After making a resolution, the committee staff will provide a crisis update that formed from the passed resolution, in which the committee would then have to revise resolutions to create a more accurate response.
Picture
CRISIS
RESOURCEFULNESS. FLEXIBILITY.
The most fast-paced committee. Crisis committees address a real-time crisis at hand. Collaboration is just as important, but in the end, everyone acts in their own self-interest. With directives, heated debate, and dramatic crisis updates, crisis committees are a race against time, with each representative constantly thinking for the next steps to their plans.

INGENIOUS THINKERS. AVID RESEARCHERS. STRONG LEADERS.
We believe in each student's potential.

Diplomacy

Inspiration can be found anywhere if only one can be allowed to see it. Our club founds the belief that our delegates find strength not in light, but in lack thereof -- that they may find resolution for tomorrow's hope.

Aspiration.

Challenge yourself. Be unexpected. Take that voice out of your pocket and grow -- leaders of the future, pioneers in the working.

Leadership.

Take the lead and inspire others. Face the dark with the light you know. Become the change -- and the ripple of tomorrow.
